I worked on a science report about soil, sand, and clay. This report is not very big. I just looked those up on Wikipedia and wrote down some information. It was not too hard, it was to replace a science experiment I could not do.

I was doing a science experiment where I had to design a robot that would help volcanologists find out more about volcanoes. My robot would help them get samples of magma and it would help them know the temperatures of a volcano deep inside of it. My robot was too be made of a material that would resist a lot of heat. My robot would be controlled by a remote control that will be controlled by a scientist. The scientist will also be able to be at the lab, and still be be able to watch the robot. There will be a tv that will be connected to two cameras inside of the robots eye slots. That way a scientist will be able to see what the robot is seeing and still be at the lab. The remote control will have buttons to move the robot forward, and there is a meter that will show how fast the robot is going. There is a meter that will show how much energy the robot has left. On the back of the robot there will be a jet pack. That can be turned on by the remote control. There are two wheels on the remote control that will move the head up and down and side ways. There is also a remote that will move the cameras up, down, left, and right. There is a small button on this remote that will make the cameras completely equally aligned. That is all I have for the robot and I hope it will help all the scientists world over.

I am doing very well in my Latin studies. I can easily take a test on all of the Latin vocab cards I have so far. I am starting to think of it as one of the most fun subjects I have. I got a 100 on my last test. I had seventy eight questions and I finished them all in eight minutes forty five seconds. I think that was one of my easiest tests.

It turns out I don’t get to put mentos and Diet coke inside of the volcano. But it was still fun to try the experiment. I forgot to take a picture of it before I destroyed it so I can’t put a picture on my blog. It was a little tricky to build the rocket. I built it out of paper mache. The inside of it was made of a whole bunch of crumbled up newspapers. I made little strips out of newspaper too. I had to cut out the little strips. Then I had to make some glue and glue them on. Making the glue wasn’t too hard it didn’t take long and it was easy to mix the ingredients into the mixing bowl. When I was finished me and my brothers destroyed it, (that was so much fun).

This weekend I will be working on a volcano. Right now I am studying ways on how to make the volcano explode. I am going to try a lot of mentos and diet coke. I will pour the diet coke in and then I will put all of the mentos inside of the volcano, and I will put a tennis ball on top of it, and see what will happen.

Today I went to a nature center to talk about humming birds. I found out a lot of things about humming birds.I learned an average humming bird is the size of a child’s pinky (about 2 to 3 inches long). I learned that a humming bird eats 7.5 calories each day. I also found it surprising to learn that a praying mantis can kill and eat a humming bird. I found out the difference between the male and female Ruby throated humming bird. The male has a red throat and a female has a white throat. I found out that male humming birds only stay with female humming birds during the mating season, and then they leave the female. After the male humming birds leave, the female humming birds the female humming birds have to take care of the baby humming birds all by themselves. Basically the females do all the work after the male humming birds leave.The female humming bird makes her nest mostly out of spider webs and then she puts likens, bits of moss, and twigs things to camouflage it.

I am starting a science experiment today. In the experiment I am pretending I am an engineer and I am building an house that can withstand an earthquake’s power. I will build it out of different kinds of material. I have decided what the magnitude is going to be, and how many earthquakes are coming against the house. If It fails then I will have to build the house out of stronger material. Every time I build a house and cause an earthquake I will write it down on a chart. Next time I post about this I will Tell everyone how to do the experiment.

My favorite subject is Latin. I find it really fun translating Latin into English. It is fun translating English into Latin. I am studying flash cards that tell me Latin words and their meaning in English. Tomorrow I am taking a Latin test. I am really excited for tomorrow.

Today my experiment was to see how many pennies a piece of fettuccine can hold before it breaks.I needed some string, a paper cup, a piece of fettuccine, two stacks of books of equal height, and some pennies. First I stacked the books into two piles 30 cm. high. Then I cut 30 cm. off the string, and I make a bucket by poking holes in the paper cup and sticking the string through the holes. After you stick the string into the holes you tie a knot to keep the string from falling off the paper cup. Then take one book off of each pile. Next hang the paper cup on the fettuccine and put the fettuccine on top of all the books. Then take the books you took off the top and put them on top of the fettuccine. After that you hold the paper cup in your hand and put a penny in the cup, then let go of the cup and repeat this process until the fettuccine breaks. Do not forget to keep count how many pennies you put into the cup. See how many pennies it takes to break the fettuccine. For me it took seventy two pennies to break the fettuccine noodle. See if you can break my score. With the instructions I gave you, you can do it whenever you like.
